DesignUp 2025
What is DesignUP?
DesignUP is a one-day design sprint hosted by Virginia Tech's College of Architecture, Arts, and Design's Graphic Design program where students collaborate with nonprofits across the New River Valley to create impactful, community-centered design solutions. The event pairs student teams with real-world clients, guided by professional mentors, to develop branding, print, digital, and strategic design work in just a few hours. Rooted in Virginia Tech's motto Ut Prosim (That I May Serve), DesignUP is an opportunity to use creativity in service to others.
As part of my independent study in Spring 2025, I took on a leadership and planning role for DesignUP. I helped spearhead key administrative tasks, including coordinating with nonprofit partners, forming student teams, managing social media, and overseeing logistics.
Working alongside a team of fellow design students, we developed the event’s branding for the year and designed custom merchandise distributed to all participants. This project combined creative direction with hands-on production and event coordination, giving me experience in both design and organizational leadership.
